The Richton Park (IL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Chartered On Saturday June 9th, 2007

Richton Park Alumni Chapter (Richton Park, Illinois) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated was chartered on Saturday, June 9, 2007. The charter was granted by then Province Polemarch Stevenson Nicholson and graciously accepted by a number of brothers including: Darren T. Barton, Kevin Booth, John Brown, Norman Brown, Vincent Bryant, Albert Chandler, Glenn R. Harris, Ray Hinton Jr., Marion C. Jeffery II, Henry “Hank” McDonald, Marque L. McKinnor, Damien Moon, Michael Moore, Don Murphy, Terrence Simmons, Leevester Spearman, Randall Tate, Shelby Taylor, Jeffery Waddy, Richard White & Kyle Williams. Still within its first year of inception the chapter reclaimed several brothers. The list included Damon Kolaras, Erick Clay, Shun T. Haynes, Kenneth Lemmie and Cardell McCollum.

Although the Brothers of Richton Park attended different colleges and universities, ranged in age from 23 to 63, employed with Fortune 500 companies to self-employed and initiated in both undergraduate or graduate chapters alike…they all had one thing in common, keeping Kappa first. Kappa first or Kappa 1st went on to become the brand and common thread that bonded them together. Kappa 1st was more than a moniker, more than a catchy phrase, but a philosophy in which each brother was expected to adapt. Despite the chapter of initiation, how many years in the Bond, your personal accomplishments, etc…the idea was to put those things aside and do what would be in the best interest of chapter and ultimately what would be in the best interest of Kappa. Damon Kolaras designed the logo for Kappa 1st.

Prior to receiving the actual charter, out of their love for Kappa, a handful of brothers operated in an unofficial capacity, under the name Kappa 1st, by adopting a family during the holidays of 2006. For Thanksgiving, the brothers donated $500 worth a food to a single-parent family. They were also able to donate an additional $250 in cash to the mother of this special family. For the Christmas holiday, the brothers were able to provide the children a bag of toys and clothes for each child. What made this endeavor spectacular is there was no exchequer at the time. The brothers were simply exercising and applying a principle they learned during their individual journeys within Kappa – ALTRUISM.

Richton Park Alumni Chapter’s first Polemarch was Glenn R. Harris, Esq.. The Vice Polemarch Randall Tate; the Keeper of Exchequer Ray Hinton Jr.; The Keeper of Records Marque L. McKinnor; Strategus and Lt. Strategus Norman Brown and Albert Chandler respectively with Darren T. Barton as the Reporter. The Board members were Marion C. Jeffery II, Lee Spearman and Henry “Hank” McDonald.

Richton Park Alumni established the Kappa 1st Foundation in its first year of chartering. The foundation was established as a means to donate scholarships to young men, in the South Suburban area, with the desire to further their academic careers.

The Richton Park Alumni Chapter advises and works with undergrad Brothers at Bradley University (Iota Kappa), Chicago State University (Theta Zeta) and Lewis University (Iota Lambda). Richton Park Alumni continues to strive for excellence by serving the community, promoting the Guide Right Program and Kappa League efforts respectively and exercise true brotherhood…all by keeping Kappa 1st.
